For a number of centuries, this area was identified as the “Lost City of Petra”. Until the 1st century A.D., when the expanding Roman Empire annexed and claimed their vast regions of land. Prior to they constructed their thriving empire, they were simply desert-dwelling nomads. But the Nabataeans in the end succeeded via their mastery of trade. It sits at the entrance to the city, greeting thousands of visitors to this cultural icon every year.
